10 Truths About Advisory

The Ten Truths of ‘Advisory’ Work As Provided By The Accountant:

1.    ‘Advisory’ means different things to different people.

2.    ‘Advisory’ has no central definition.

3.    ‘Advisory’ is always asked for informally by clients.

4.    ‘Advisory’ is always provided without charging enough by the accountant.

5.    ‘Advisory’ is rarely formalised by your firm.

6.    ‘Advisory’ is rarely packaged and promoted by your firm.

7.    ‘Advisory’ is rarely won as recurring work.

8.    ‘Advisory’ takes a back seat to compliance in conferences, software developers and priority in your firm.

9.    ‘Advisory’ was first heralded as ‘the future’ for accountants in the 1930s.

10.    ‘Advisory’ will be heralded as ‘the future’ for accountants in 2025.

Why is that last one true?

Because ‘advisory’ is still what your clients need most and still pay the most for, when they’re convinced of the relevance of its impact on their ambitions.

Next year, try to put ‘Advisory’ on the back seat of your priorities less, if you can.

That’s my advice. No charge.
